All over the world, recycling industries are starting to shift how we think about how we use our natural resources and reuse the products companies produce so we can drive down greenhouse gasses and create a more efficient and powerful circular economy. The circular economy we appear to all be moving toward involves more care placed into the reuse and recycling of products and materials in an effort to create better efficiency in all business systems and consumption. The goal is to create a system that perpetuates itself and reduces or eliminates waste. A key component in building a circular economy is by recycling.

Circular Economy Examples

The circular economy is not a fad. Many companies are already implementing circular economies into their business practices and methods. A few examples:

  1. Winnow- This UK-based company is building systems to analyze commercial food trash with smart meters designed to help businesses avoid wasted food and resources.
  2. DyeCoo- This Dutch business helps textile businesses reduce their use of water and chemicals. This company has created a way to dye fabrics without the use of water.
  3. Close the Loop- This Australian company has been recycling printer cartridges and soft plastics. They then reused these materials to help build roads with asphalt and glass. These roads have been shown to last 65% longer than traditional roads.
  4. Enerkem- This Canadian firm has created technology that extracts carbon from trash that can’t be recycled. This carbon is then turned into a gas that can fuel automobiles.
  5. Schneider Electric- A French company, Schneider Electric specializes in energy management and automation. It has committed to using recycled materials and content in its products, prolonging the lifespan of its products, and instituted take-back programs in its supply chain.

These pioneering firms are on the forefront of the circular economy and all this way of thinking can accomplish around the world.
